Plymouth Art Exhibition

This weekend (1st and 2nd of October 2021) I will be exhibiting 4 pieces from my charcoal collection at Leadworks Projects in Plymouth in conjunction with Plymouth Artists Together.

10% will go to Plymouth Together that will help the victim’s families and community of Keyham.

Having grown up in Plymouth between the ages of 6 and 22, I have a deep connection with the city and would really love to help.

Times, dates and location details can be found on the Leadworks website.

Hank the Hermit Crab

It’s coming up to Christmas again and I just wanted to make sure that if you’re doing:

🎁 Something they want

🎨 Something they need

👕 Something to wear

📚 Something to read

I can help with the last one! I am also a children’s author/illustrator and I am self published, so every single sale really makes me smile.

You can buy on Amazon or directly from me – just drop me a message.

They are £6.99 each including postage (the price on Amazon is lower as the cost of postage will be added during checkout).

Thank you!

“Cornish Shoal”

Mackerel swimming in a “Cornish Shoal”

A fishing inspired impressionist piece.

Calming with a deep sense of flow and simplistic brush work. Using my favourite colours this really is a statement piece that is inspired by my childhood, mackerel fishing in Cornwall.

Cornish Shoal by Gilly Ridge

“Daymer”

Calming tides at “Daymer”..

Another coast inspired abstract.

I loved creating this… Lots of new techniques and I love the outcome! Acrylic, stone and bronze spray and white ink.

A memory of one of my favourite beaches to take the children…

“Helping Through Art”

20% of all sales will go to charity in February and March.

I am one of over 3m people in the UK who have been excluded from any covid government grants due to not fitting in with the rules.

I have been lucky enough to keep my business going (although only by diversifying) and keep paying my bills (just), but there are thousands who haven’t been so lucky.

Excludeduk.org have been a force of support for so many over the past year and I would like to give back.

All art sales until the end of March 2021 will provide 20% to their charity.

You can view pieces for sale here or on my Instagram (www.instagram.com/artbygillyridge). If it doesn’t have a price, please just get in touch and I’ll let you know if it’s still available.

Thank you.

“Rocky Shores”

It’s been a turbulent time over “Rocky Shores”

One of my photographer friends (www.instagram.com/iamjoncooney) posted an image from his drone and I fell in love with it. I decided then and there that I need to create an abstract painting from it.

I love painting the sea in abstract forms. It has the same type of calming affect on me.

I’m really happy with how it turned out – and love how the gold leaf reflects the light!

SOLD “Lockdown Longings”

Needed to take my mind off my stresses this evening.

Normally I visit the beach for a walk when my head needs clearing and my soul needs soothing, but I live a 25 minute drive to the nearest beach, so in lockdown I’ve not been able to as it isn’t seen as essential travel (although I think it is!!).

So instead of walking beside it, I decided to paint it. Abstract so I could be free to lose myself rather than concentrating really hard on getting details right.

What shall I call it?

“A Cornish Winter’s Sunset”

There’s nothing quite as relaxing as a “Cornish Winter’s Sunset”

A freeing and relaxing piece for me.

It’s been full on over the past couple of weeks homeschooling my youngest and making sure the older two are getting their work submitted on time.

This was a calming painting experience for me.

Paint on… And many, many horizontal strokes of the brush to get the paint mixing and sitting where I wanted it to. It took several days to get right.

What’s been your calming getaway during these difficult times?
